Villa Althea
Astrid Azoulay

An architecture of contrasts
and subjects
In Paris, a house is reborn under the guidance of Astrid Azoulay. From the very first moments, the Althea house asserts itself as an exploration of materials and craftsmanship, a dialogue between structure and sensation, and artisanal excellence.
Arriving mid-construction, she collaborated with the existing team of architects, bringing her expertise in interior architecture to address a previously unmet need. She orchestrated a complete reimagining of the layout and conceived a new spatial composition — an architectural creation where every detail and every finish finds its rightful place with precision.
At the heart of this transformation lies a bold ambition: to offer its inhabitants a unique sensory experience, where material becomes language and the gestures of master artisans reveal their full refinement. Wood converses with stone, glass is sculpted by light, while water flows into the space, elevated by a marble pool with infinite reflections.
Far from being a static project, Astrid Azoulay shaped and enriched it through ongoing dialogue — both with her clients and with her artisans. From these exchanges emerged a vibrant interior, where each iconic piece reflects meticulous craftsmanship: parquet inlays framed with stone, a blown-glass plant-inspired pendant by Veronese, sculptural bull-head wall lights, custom stained glass, a jellyfish aquarium… all elements crafted by the hands of master artisans, bearers of tradition and innovation.
More than just a house, the villa Althea project becomes a scenography — a narrative woven from contrasts and materials, where each element feels like a natural part of the story.

Parquet framed with stone
“The parquet rugs framed with stone are the result of meticulous work I carried out in collaboration with my carpenter. This subtle dialogue between the warmth of wood and the mineral nobility of stone creates a floor pattern that is both graphic and refined — a true signature of the space.”
Brushed pine bookcase
“Made of deeply brushed pine, the bookshelf was custom-designed for the project. The intention was to evoke a raw and authentic material, reminiscent of a tree trunk in its natural state.”
ODE Light
JACCO MARIS DESIGN
“The Ode chandelier by Jacco Maris adds a classic touch to the space. The copper finish was chosen to infuse elegance and softness, a tone that subtly resonates with the surrounding wood and creates a visual harmony. Its undulating, almost serpentine shape seems to extend the movement of nature, once again inviting the outdoors into the space.”
Feather shells
MAUD RUBY
The word of Astrid Azoulay
“The Coques by Maud Ruby seamlessly integrate into this project, where the material is celebrated for its delicacy, its dreamlike quality, but also for its strength and ability to endure through time.”
The word of Maud Ruby
“My work explores movement and its recomposition. I develop a sculptural approach that deconstructs the feather to recompose it into a new, graphic, and light form. Through the Coques, I seek to freeze the momentum, to capture the moment when lightness becomes form, when the feathers envelop themselves to create a suspended presence, almost timeless, and poetic.”

VERONESE
“I chose these Cell pendants by Veronese, designed by Patrick Naggar, for their lightness and the unique presence they exude. Once illuminated, the gilded crystal at their center transports us into a dreamlike universe. These pendants echo the balustrade, creating a subtle dialogue between the elements.”
Marble kitchen island
BLANC CARRARE
“The kitchen island, made of Blanc Carrare, explores a bi-texture approach: on one side, a brushed finish that precisely reveals the marble’s veining; on the other, a layered treatment, more raw, evoking rock in its natural state. This contrast, on a limited surface, showcases the richness of the same material and reveals its multiple possibilities.”

ASTRID AZOULAY COLLECTION
“The O sofa, custom-designed, is part of my furniture collection. Made with outdoor fabric from the Pierre Frey house and entirely manufactured in France, it stands out with its raw base, which echoes the veining of stone. Its very comfortable seating invites relaxation.”
ATOME Guéridon
CHARLOTTE BILTGEN x SONJA DE MONCHY
“The result of a true collaboration between designer Charlotte Biltgen and ceramist Sonja de Monchy, Atome is a side table that exudes a powerful, earthy, magmatic, volcanic force softened by its lines that revisit classic aesthetics. It consists of a round chamotte stoneware top and a central cylindrical base adorned with helical ceramic grooves.”
The word of Sonja de Monchy
“For this collaboration with Charlotte Biltgen, I focused my research on the most natural expression of raw materials. Completely turned and shaped by my hands, this side table in chamotte stoneware is coated with metallic oxide, partially glazed, and then fired in a single firing process.”

The marble staircase
BLANC CARRARE
“This staircase, a central feature of the house, was designed as a true work of art. The craftsmanship, remarkably precise, stands out especially on the marble, whose veining gracefully follows the ascent from start to finish. The delicately integrated balustrade accompanies the movement with subtlety, highlighting the brilliance of the embedded gold flecks that blend into the whole with refined elegance.”
Gradient wall
“I wanted to create a space that is both delicate and precious, where every detail matters. The wall, adorned with a subtle gradient, accompanies the upward movement. This work on tones required great precision: the marble’s nuances had to be faithfully reproduced and their distribution carefully orchestrated to create a sense of visual elevation.”

MAXENCE DE BAGNEUX
“Through Collection Latil, I discovered the work of Maxence de Bagneux, particularly his unique approach to material. When we completed this space, the installation of the Totems felt like a natural choice. Maxence’s woodwork resonates with that of the bookshelves, while the stoneware, with its lightness and softness, brings a touch of subtlety to the staircase.”

Wine cellar
Wine cellar
“I designed the wine cellar as a true room — a space for sharing and relaxation, a standalone piece at the heart of the house. In collaboration with Light & Day, I meticulously worked on the lighting to reveal the uniqueness of this space and to highlight every detail.”

“The Indochine chair by Cassina, designed by Charlotte Perriand, naturally finds its place in completing this space. I appreciate the delicacy that emerges from the combination of materials — wood, iron, and stained glass — creating a harmony of colors and softness that brings a unique atmosphere.”

VERONESE
“The Liane Végétale chandelier draws its inspiration from a sketch I created. It is a bespoke piece that I designed in collaboration with Veronese. My intention was to bring nature inside the home, hence the airy, organic structure adorned with colorful blown-glass leaves and flowers. The selection of colors and the development of each detail were the result of a truly collaborative effort.”
Stained glass oculus
L’ÂME DU VITRAIL
“The colored stained glass windows, commissioned from L’Âme du Vitrail and carefully selected, subtly resonate with the suspended chandelier. They bring a precious, almost solemn dimension to the dining room. The light filtered through the oculus casts shadows and reflections, shaping an atmosphere that is both soothing and dreamlike. This stained glass piece, with a diameter of 2.20 meters, is not just a ceiling element — it also forms the floor of the office floating just above. I see it as a threshold, a link between two spaces, between function and poetry.”

The green marble was chosen to bring a natural touch to the house. The large shower, designed to offer a total immersion, thus creates the feeling of being closest to nature. Its delicate veining blends perfectly with the faucets.
