French Design Art Edition | Art Paris 2025 | 03 – 06 April | Grand Palais

ART PARIS 2025:
ATELIER MONTEX AND CHARLOTTE BILTGEN,
AN UNPRECEDENTED COLLABORATION INITIATED
BY LATIL COLLECTION, AT THE HEART OF THE FIRST
FRENCH DESIGN ART EDITION COMPONENT.

In 2025, Art Paris inaugurates French Design Art Edition, a new sector dedicated to design and contemporary decorative arts. This first edition, which coincides with the centenary of the international exhibition of modern decorative and industrial arts, brings together eighteen exhibitors and offers an original group exhibition on one hundred and thirty square meters scenographed by the architects Jakob+MacFarlane.

On the occasion of this exceptional appointment, designer and interior designer Charlotte Biltgen unveils the remarkable first piece of the Samurai project: the Ichi armchair, sublimated by the exceptional embroidery of Atelier Montex. An unmissable appointment to discover from April 3 to 6, 2025 on the north balconies of the nav of the Grand Palais.

COLLECTION LATIL
A story of meetings…

The Samurai project was born from a common idea between Collection Latil and Charlotte Biltgen, the result of a reflection aimed at combining art and design through an exceptional piece of furniture. From this collaboration emerges a dialogue between the creativity of the designer and the unique know-how of the artisans of Collection Latil, giving rise to a bold project.

Since 2018, Anne-Sophie Latil has maintained a privileged relationship with the Atelier Montex, a 19M art house renowned for its expertise in exceptional embroidery. Driven by her passion for high decoration, she initiated the first interior ornamentation projects by collaborating with this workshop of excellence. When Charlotte Biltgen chooses to enrich her Ebisu armchair with remarkable embroidery, the expertise of the Montex Workshop is naturally necessary. To realize this vision, Anne-Sophie orchestrates the meeting between the designer and Aska Yamashita, artistic director of the Atelier Montex. From this alchemy between talents, trust and common vision, the first Samurai is born: Ichi who will be revealed during the first part of the French Design Art Edition at Art Paris 2025.

ATELIER MONTEX
The excellence of the Maison d’art
at the service of Interior design…

Inspired by archival samples from the Atelier Montex, Charlotte Biltgen reinterpreted them in a contemporary approach that dialogues with the enveloping lines of the armchair. On the outer shell of the Ichi armchair, organic shapes that bring on abstraction are made in applications of dipped lamb leather from La Maison Bodin-Joyeux. A fixed embroidery and underlines these applications, made in Cornely, a hand-guided machine specific to the Atelier Montex. By combining a rayon thread and a metallic thread, the contours come to life with a subtle shine, in shades of green. These shapes are finally put in volume by a padding technique, giving depth and sensoriality to the material. Atelier Montex, recognized for its expertise in haute couture embroidery, fuses tradition and innovation at the service of interior design, offering incomparable precision and elegance for this unprecedented piece.

CHARLOTTE BILTGEN
When design meets Haute couture…

In the setting of the Ichi armchair, artisanal know-how dialogues with the rigor of design. This play sublimates the meeting between the masculine and the feminine. Charlotte Biltgen imagined a suspended moment: under a ginkgo in Japan, a breath of wind raises a whirlwind of leaves that come to rest gracefully, on the bark of the armchair. This poetic moment comes to life through a play of vegetable textures, where the delicately embroidered leather captures the lightness of a foliage in free fall. Ichi offers a cozy and tactile elegance, at the crossroads of nature and craftsmanship. The outer shell is covered with a gray green full-grain leather, embroidered by the Atelier Montex team. The interior and cushions are in Vladimiro foam green velvet from Dedar enveloping the seat with a precious softness, and inspiring as much the intimacy of a smoking room as the elegance of a tailoring salon. With the Ichi armchair, embroidery becomes sculpture, design becomes haute couture.
